Camp. Hike. Whittle. Whistle. Bring your whole family or just come on your own. This co-ed, all-age traditional outdoor scouting program was developed and refined over 40 years starting in 1907 by the Father of Scouting and Chief Scout of the World, Lord Robert Baden-Powell. The nostalgia we have for scouting days of old exists because of this program.
The opportunity to participate in a whole family activity is rare these days. The best way we learn is by example – from friends, from parents, and from other community members, young and old. Develop skills, meet new people, have pride in your work and your service to your community.
We teach real outdoor skills and engage in adventures, campouts, and community-building. Service is one of our core tenants, as we create a culture where children and adults ask,”how can I help?”
Our aim thus remains the same as when scouting was founded: to promote good citizenship, discipline, self-reliance, loyalty, and useful skills. BPSA is totally independent of, and not affiliated with, the Boys Scouts of America or the Girl Scouts of the USA.
We are members of the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS); and as such are not in competition with other American scouting associations, we are only their brothers and sisters. BPSA-US work closely with the Baden-Powell Scouts’ Association of England and the Baden-Powell Service Association in Canada.

“The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.”- Lord Robert Baden-Powell, Founder of the Scouting Movement
“The BPSA offers a choice for those with curiosity, energy, and independence of spirit. We are committed to providing an appropriate alternative and community-oriented Scouting experience. The BPSA welcomes everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, ability, religion (or no religion), or other differentiating factors. Our mission is to provide a positive learning environment within the context of democratic participation and social justice. We foster the development of Scouts in an environment of mutual respect and cooperation.”
The training scheme devised by Baden-Powell is based on using the natural desires of young people as a guide to the activities that will attract and hold them.
Our method and practice provide young people with the opportunity to craft and develop their own adventures, trips, and service projects.
The appeal of true Scouting has always been to that element of the vagabond, pioneer, and explorer, which is part of our nature, and is at its most evident in youth.
Scouting is an outdoor movement and that is part of its character. To whatever degree conditions may, at time, force us indoors—such as weather, darkness, or town life—we must regard this as second-best necessity and never as a satisfactory substitute for the real thing.

Well, we’re almost half way through August and you know what that means, October is only 6 weeks away. Time to split that wood. Normally we rent a vertical/horizontal splitter for one day $50 and we go at it like a car assembly line. We don’t worry about stacking when we are renting, only splitting. I found this video that covers axe, maul, electric and hydraulic splitting… 😉
They say that necessity is the mother of invention and I believe that to be true, especially when you don’t have on hand what was already invented 😉
Today I invented my own Cultured Marble (fake marble) Shower Cleaner. Because we are on a septic system and because you are not suppose to use anything harsh on the “marblite” I took to youtube. There were many concoctions but the one recipe I kept noticing was one with white vinegar. One recipe called for 1 cup white vinegar with 1 cup Dawn dish liquid (1 whole cup of dish liquid seems a little excessive to me), so I made my own
First off, even with airing the shower out it starts to get pink mold.
“This mold (bacterial growth) is frequently found growing on damp surfaces, such as bathtubs and showers, and even in your grout. However, pink mold can be on wallpaper, carpet, bathroom cabinets, and behind mirrors.
It is advised not to use carpet in your bathrooms since the moisture can seep into the carpet and be the perfect breeding ground for mold. If you use a rug in the bathroom, wash it regularly and make sure it always dries completely before placing it back in the bathroom.
What is Pink Mold?
In the mold world, pink mold is known as Aureobasidium and can be found indoors and outdoors. Just like all mold, pink mold comes with its fair share of health problems. Pink mold can cause respiratory problems, inflammation and infections in the lungs, bleeding in the lungs, allergic reactions, and hives and rashes, just to name a few.
Anyone can be affected by pink mold, but infants and the elderly are more likely to experience more severe symptoms. Additionally, your pets can become sick by ingesting or being exposed to pink mold. It is important to locate the problem quickly, and have it taken care of in a timely manner. The longer you or your loved ones are exposed to mold, the more severe the long-term damage can be.” – https://www.waterdamageadvisor.com/mold/pink-mold/
Besides the pink mold the shower pan gets dirty like anything else. Those two things along with being on a septic system (no chlorine or bleach) forced myself to make my own concoction. Which I did and I thought the results were fantastic.
Disclaimer: like anything else if you choose to do this, be safe (safety glasses, gloves) and try it out on a small spot first just to make sure 😉
Here’s what you will need;
1/2 cup water + 1 cup white vinegar
2 Tablespoons dish liquid
Everyone seems to use Dawn but I think any dish liquid will do
Add to 1 spray bottle shake gently
Spray entire area (once you have spot tested) and let sit 10 minutes.
Spray more on high mold areas (we are only talking about light mold situations, mold can be dangerous. Do not go near black mold, call an expert!)
After ten minutes, spray again and scrub. I use a circular motion on the floor but be sure you get the corners, the framing and under the shower door.
Rinse with bucket. I do this just before I take a shower and rinse while I’m in the shower. I had no problems stepping on it except it can be slippery so hold on to something!
The mold came off easily and the shower pan after rinsing was not slippery at all and came out very nice indeed.
This has been cleaned and rinsed except,…..I forgot to get the rail under the door.
I also used this on the glass and it came out better than it was but glass is a whole different story 😉
